Project: Troubleshooting Radiated Emissions on a Home EV Charging Unit
Time scale: 2 working days
Scope of work: A charger for electric vehicles failed radiated emission tests. Some boards in the unit were re-designed and the modified unit will be sent for EMC tests soon. The client requested some review work on the new design to check if it improves the EMC performance.
A biconical antenna was set up 2 meters away from the unit for troubleshooting as shown below:
The issue was identified as the clock signal between the microcontroller and the wifi module. Recommendations on the layout were given and a new board has been designed since. The new board passed the radiated emissions test.
